Call For Help

Fri May 29, 2009, 7:00 AM
Okay, so I've tried searching the net for the answers, and nothing seems to work. So MAYBE someone out there can tell me honestly.

My mother got Verizon DSL for her computer, and I'm dropping Comcast for it (mostly cause it's cheaper). They sent us the model, filters, blah blah. Everything hooks up to her computer, the net runs fine for her, all is well.

So, I go in there and hook in a Linksys BEFSR41 wired router. I get all the connections in, and no internet. Now I don't claim to be a know-it-all when it comes to networking, but I'm sure I did everything right. We used the router to get her computer to run Comcast cable. All I did was plug it in, reboot the modem, and it would work fine. Not so with DSL, it seems.

So can ANYONE help? Please?

it could be the signal type may not work with your router. You may want to run the specs by verizon and guage compatibility with them.

Generally, network cards and routers have what are called MAC Addresses. And without going into all of that they are, when connected to an ISP, the MAC address of the computer's network card or the router is linked to the IP address assigned to the high speed modem.

Long story short, your DSL modem, until properly reset, may only work with your mother's computer (and her MAC Address). Check over how to reboot the DSL modem so it will seek a new Mac Address (from the router) as it might be different than rebooting the cable modem.

If you have a firewall turn it off when using or go to settings and allow program.
You could also try having it connected to your computer forcing your computer to allow it.

with DSL you need to fill in the PPPoE information, since DSL works with a LOGIN & PASSWORD... lookup your information on your bill and whatnot... and just fill it up, give it a minute and BAM! it'll be up!

I wish I could help you out man, but I have no clue how DSL works. TT_TT

I had a similar problem and solved it by running the setup program from the disk provided with the router.

One thing to try is unplug the dsl router, and wireless router, plug the dsl back in then plug the wireless in. It happens from time to time with my RoadRunner, something about my Wii tends to mess with the internet. Probably wont help, but it's the only thing I know of.

Actually this is why I dropped DSL for comcast, DSL by verizon is a nightmare
